Who is Mike?
This art print is released in memory of my father-in-law, Mike Ogles, who was one of my biggest supporters even when my art wasn't really any good. He was ecstatic when my Auburn trademark license request was approved. We collectively decided that Samford Hall should be my first project and I started sketching the very next week.
The black & white and Be Like Mike versions are a tribute to an unfinished life taken before we were ready and a reminder to live every moment so fully present that even a life cut short is a life well-lived.
Auburn was more than just a favorite football team for him. He was a proud graduate and it was his dream to go back and work for the college, which he was able to do as the Director of NASA Programs. After Mike's passing, his co-workers noticed a daily reminder on his calendar that read "Do big things for God, Family and Auburn" and started an office campaign to "Be Like Mike."
Why is it important to work with officially licensed artists?
An artist or manufacturer must obtain a license from any University to sell products that relates to their brand. Officially licensed artists have been vetted by the college and pay royalties to be used for future scholarships for each product sold. Labor codes and responsible sourcing is also held to the highest standard for these products.
As far as what this means for my products, that's why you only see Auburn (for now!) and why the Auburn licensed products are more expensive than other similar products.
